Amy’s Ride/Run/Walk 2021 Event Update
To ARRW Supporters:
2020 was a year like no other in a generation with the impact of COVID-19. It affected every aspect of our lives and resulted in protocols designed to limit its spread. As a result, Amy’s Ride/Run/Walk Against Pancreatic Cancer (ARRW) was canceled as a live event 2020. ARRW annual fundraising event of the Pancreatic Cancer Cure Foundation (PCCF), a local 501(c)3 non-profit. In spite of this cancelation and with the generosity of our supporters PCCF was able to direct $33,000 in funding to various pancreatic cancer initiatives in 2020.
With vaccinations being administered at an accelerating rate, we plan to hold ARRW 2021 as a live event in conformance with CDC guidelines. In parallel, we will hold a ARRW virtual event for those who may be more comfortable with a virtual event at this time.
We are asking you to support the 7th Annual Amy’s Ride/Run/Walk Against Pancreatic Cancer (ARRW) to be held Saturday, May 15th, 2021 in Quakertown, PA. PCCF has donated more than $202,000 to pancreatic cancer research and patient support programs since 2015. More than $154,000.00 was allocated towards pancreatic cancer research at Thomas Jefferson University/Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center in Philadelphia (an NCI-designated national cancer center). The remaining $48,000.00 has supported programs for pancreatic cancer patients and their caregivers through both Jefferson and locally through St. Luke’s Cancer Center in Quakertown, PA as well as LV Cancer Support Community. Our goal this year is to continue our strong support for critically needed research along with funding patient support services.
This Work is Important
Each year, more and more Americans hear the words, “You have pancreatic cancer.” In 2021, an estimated 60,430 will receive this diagnosis, and another 48,220 will succumb to the disease. The pancreatic cancer 5-year survival rate is less than 10%. Due to a profound lack of early detection tools and limited treatment options, it is currently the 3rd leading cause of cancer death in the United States and expected to be second within a year. In spite of this, research funding is shockingly inadequate; less than 3% of the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) research budget is dedicated to pancreatic cancer. Funding from organizations like ours is critical for progressive research and treatment breakthroughs.
The Event – Amy’s Ride/Run/Walk Against Pancreatic Cancer
Since its inception, Amy’s Ride/Run/Walk continues to grow in its success! The last on-site event had more than 400 participants, 60 volunteers and over 75 corporate and business sponsors. This family event offers participants their choice of a 5K pet and family-friendly fun walk, a 5k timed run or two bike options; 24 or 42 miles.
