We had the most wonderful time visiting the Swain Sprinters on Tuesday, May 7th! First off, we want to say a big thank you to the amazing students at Swain Sprinters for their warm welcome and incredible enthusiasm. Their dedication to raising awareness for pancreatic cancer is truly inspiring!
Our visit coincided with the Swain Sprinters’ bake sale fundraiser and their dress-down purple day. The bake sale was completely sold out when we arrived at the school! 🍪 All together they were able to raise $1277.06 from the bake sale and around $700 from the dress down day donations!
During our visit, the President of the Pancreatic Cancer Cure Foundation (PCCF), Steve Cygan, spoke about the significance of Amy’s Ride/Run/Walk and the impact that the donations and fundraising make. We were impressed by the thoughtful questions the Swain Sprinters asked. It’s clear that they all care deeply about making a difference in the fight against pancreatic cancer, and we’re so grateful for their interest and support.
As a token of our appreciation, we brought some special purple bracelets saying “No one fights alone.” We hope the team wears them proudly and remembers that they’re part of a community that’s making a real difference in the world.
We also want to give a shoutout to the coaches Jeffrey Haviland, Allison Haas, and Heather Manning, and the entire Swain Sprinters team for their hard work and dedication. It’s amazing to hear that the team has grown to 36 kids this year, including both boys and girls, as well as middle school ambassadors who were previously on the team. What an incredible achievement!
As we prepare for the upcoming race, we want to extend an invitation to all of you to join us. Whether you walk, run, or simply cheer us on from the sidelines, your support is invaluable. Together, we’re stronger. Together, we’re making a difference. Together, we’re fighting pancreatic cancer.
Thank you, Swain Sprinters, for your amazing spirit and for being such wonderful supporters in this important cause!
About the Swain Sprinters
Coach Jeff Haviland started the Swain Sprinters when he joined the Swain School in 2017. At the time, they had Girls on the Run but no option for the boys. Since Coach H. worked with a program similar to it at his last school, Swain School asked if he would be interested in starting a program at Swain as well. Jeff Haviland said, “As a lifelong runner, I was happy to do it!” This year for 2024 the team has gone co-ed and have also added “ambassadors” which are middle school students, who have been on the team in the past, acting as assistant coaches.
Currently, the Swain Sprinters team for Amy’s Ride/Run/Walk is at 79 team members and climbing! Visit their fundraising page and help support the cause: https://amysriderunwalk.enmotive.com/events_teams/fundraising/f359ae1d-60c1-4463-a0ee-d890378f7310
